ROX Founder and CEO Recognized Among Region’s Top Leadership
August 8, 2023 (Columbus, OH) – Smart Business Magazine has awarded the 2023 Columbus Smart 50 Awards to recognize Central Ohio’s leaders, including Dr. Lisa Hinkelman, founder and CEO of Ruling Our eXperiences (ROX). As a Smart 50 honoree, Dr. Hinkelman was recognized for demonstrating innovative leadership, achieving success, and sustaining impact.
In an awards ceremony at The Exchange at Bridge Park, the distinguished cohort of 50 nonprofit and corporate leaders were honored for their shared drive to make a significant difference in the community and beyond.
“Hinkelman impresses with her tenacity, grit and vision, leading a concept to become a national movement. As a renowned researcher, best-selling author, licensed professional counselor, and social entrepreneur, she focuses on empowering and educating girls fostering confidence and decision-making skills,” said one of the emcees for the evening.
Hinkelman’s expertise stems from nearly 20 years of researching and counseling girls and educating adults, including a tenure as a professor at The Ohio State University. Through ROX she has impacted over 500,000 adults, helping them support and encourage girls to achieve their fullest potential.

About Lisa Hinkelman, Ph.D.: Dr. Lisa Hinkelman is the founder and CEO of Ruling Our eXperiences, Inc. (ROX). She is a counselor, educator, researcher and author of the award-winning book, 'Girls Without Limits: Helping Girls Achieve Healthy Relationships, Academic Success and Interpersonal Strength' Corwin Press, 2013. Dr. Hinkelman's work for the past decade has focused on the critical issues impacting girls and how schools, parents and educators can effectively support and encourage girls' interpersonal, educational and career growth. Previously, as a Counselor Education faculty member at The Ohio State University, Dr. Hinkelman's teaching and scholarly research focused on social and emotional learning, non-academic barriers that impact learning and girls' self-concept development.
