Arkansas ROX Program: Jacey sees beauty in a whole new way. Montana finds belonging.
Arkansas ROX Program Builds Confidence
A Story About: Jacey and Montana ROX Girls from Arkansas
Submitted by: Shana Leggate, Licensed School Counselor (LSC) , ROX Facilitator
Key ROX Program Outcomes: Increased confidence, healthier body image
Did You Know? 86% of girls have higher levels of self-esteem and self-confidence after participating in The ROX Program for Girls.
ROX Facilitator Shana Leggate shares her Story
“I became a ROX facilitator because I saw a need to uplift and empower the girls in my school and community. What I didn’t expect was how life-changing the experience would be—not just for them, but for me as well. While I set out to help build their self-confidence and self-awareness, I found my own confidence growing in the process.
As one of my ROX Girls, Jacey, shared:
“ROX helped me see beauty in a whole new way. It’s not about looking a certain way—it’s about being strong, kind, and confident. I used to care way too much about what other people thought of me, but ROX taught me to care more about what I think of me.”
Throughout the program, each of the girls expressed how seen, heard, and supported they felt. They built deep, lasting friendships and found a true sense of belonging.
Another one of my ROX Girls, Montana, said:
“Before ROX, I felt like I didn't know where I belonged or what to do. During ROX, I was learning so many communication skills and started feeling like I’d found my place. After ROX, I really knew where I belonged. I’ll miss everyone—but the thing I’ll miss the most is my favorite counselor, Mrs. Leggate.”
the impact of rox
The impact of ROX goes far beyond the classroom. It creates lasting change—in how girls see themselves, support one another, and step confidently into the world. And as a facilitator, I’m honored to walk beside them on that journey.”
