breanne’s rox story
Last school year was my first time implementing the ROX program, and it quickly became one of the most impactful additions to our school community.
The rox program meets the need
As the ROX facilitator, I had the privilege of leading a small group of 6th-grade girls through the 20-week curriculum. From the very beginning, it was clear the program was meeting a need our school community had not fully recognized or addressed.
The girls entered each session with excitement, eager to engage in activities that encouraged them to reflect on their identities, relationships, and leadership potential. I watched them grow—not only individually, but as a collective sisterhood.
The Impact on The Girls
They began supporting one another in ways that carried over into the school day. Teachers and staff noticed that even when conflicts arose, the girls were more thoughtful in their communication and able to resolve issues independently. Their decision-making and problem-solving skills showed up not only in the classroom, but also during unstructured times like lunch and recess.
Growth for Breanne
As a facilitator, I also experienced growth. ROX provided me with research-based tools and a structure that helped me deliver lessons that truly resonated. More importantly, it allowed me to create a safe, consistent space where girls could share openly and authentically. While I guided the group, the girls reminded me daily of the realities of growing up as a girl today.
Bringing ROX to our school planted the seeds for a cultural shift. The success of our first year has created momentum, and both students and staff are eager to see the program expand in the 2026 school year.
